I first purchased a tear drop shaped Humidifier (made by the same company) for my bedroom. I loved it so much, I wanted to have another one for my home office, so purchased this Crane Adorable 1 Gallon Cool Mist Humidifier. I knew the amount of output was a little less but it's so cute and also ~$8 cheaper, so I decided to try it.
The difference in between these two are
1. Output Amount - This is 0.2 gallons less than tear dropped shape. It's only "0.2 gallons," but I can easily tell the difference. This would be perfect for a smaller room, but diffidently recommend the other unit for a bigger room. I am using this unit in my home office (11 X 13) and the tear dropped shape in bedroom (14 X 23) and both work great. This unit has less output, but using it my office, it still makes the humidity level pretty high. Without running a room heater and the door completely closed, it can get up to mid 60%. It is normally in mid 40% without using this unit and mid 50% with a room heater going.
2. Run Time - Because the amount of mist comes out from this unit is much less than the other, its run time is much longer. I timed it, and ran a little over 16 hours (at the highest setting) that is 6 hours longer than the other unit! I am happy that I don't have to keep adding water so frequently.
3. Mist Angle - I wish penguin's face was a little more upright looking towards the ceiling so the mist will shoot upwards as tear dropped shape one dose nicely. However, this was quickly fixed as I place this unit at a higher place.
4. Materials - Compare to the tear dropped shape, the handle (top of the unit inside penguin's head), water tank and its cap look a little cheaply made, but still works great and there is no leak, so I do not have any problems with it.
After all, I am happy with both units. It really depends on the size of room you are using, how much output you want and how often you want to add water. I also posted a review for tear dropped shape if you are interested in knowing the basic work on this unit.
